  3. There are a large number of insects that will scavenge on such material.  Probably the most successful group of these would be the dermestid beetles - such as the larder beetle and carpet beetle.

    These beetles are scavengers as both adults and larvae, and commonly feed on things like dead flies on the windowsill, dead mice in the walls, or the cereal spilled in the corners of your cupboards.
