What insect is this?!?

Question

I live in England and we recently put a huge tent up in the garden which seems to have encouraged lots of these little critters to come out. I just really want to know what it is! It's about the length of my finger nail (maybe 1cm or so) and its whole body is spiky. I think we had some beigey brown ones but I didnt get a close look at them, it was mainly the black ones.

lady bug larvae.  Lucky you!  they are voracious consumers of aphids.  http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/im...
