sorry i don't have a picture, but i do have a pretty good description. it has an almost completely round body, and seems to only have one body part. it's dark and light bown. 6 brown legs, evenly spaced around it's body. small. not like flea small, but small. about 1/4 inch wide, 1/4 inch tall, and 1/4 inch long. it jumps whenever it's disturbed (and BOY can it JUMP) but seems to walk around when not irritated. it has two 1/4 inch white strands (look like very skinny wings) protruding from it's rear end. i'd never seen them before, but saw one on my porch two nights ago and one on my bedroom wall tonight. there are fleas in my house too. could it be a relative of the flea or maybe a mutant species? i live in maryland.

  2. i think its a tick. those things can jump HIGH.

  3. You might think its a pretty good description but when you key unseen insects you look for unique characteristics.  Jumping is the most unique but that includes fleas, many species of orthoptera(grasshoppers and such), Homoptera(leaf hoppers and such).  My guess is that it belongs to the order Ephemeroptera.  Mayfly and springtails.

Try this site and look at the wingless mayflies.  Some have 2 tails some have 3.  The wingless are nymphs and the fish love them.

  4. Sounds kinda like a tick.

  5. kinda sounds like a what we call a june bug i dont know if this is the real name of it but thats what we call them in Indiana. but they only really come out at night and are atracted to light and are harmless. some june bugs are green but most that i have ever seen are brown. do a search for june bug pics, and compare it to the pics.
