  1. I like to write Horror and Science Fiction, and some of my best ideas have come from my own paranoia.

  2. I always listen to music to get me in the mood to write.  I listen to my favorite, most tear-jerking, songs and let the emotions I feel flow onto the page.  Songs like Broken by Seether and Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright.  Songs that deepen my well of emotions to the point that I have to write to keep from crying :)

  3. I am writing poetry about my life.

So sometimes, something happens that gets to me emotionally and then I write about it.

But when my life is quiet, I go back over my life story to outstanding episodes and write about them - it's a little hard because it's the past and my memory is going and of course, my emotions may not be so fresh about it.

Here's a short poem just for fun (although, it's serious).

Back to the way it was

    isn't that what you wanted

    conversation without purpose

    visits without intent

Back to the way it was

before you told me those feelings

    keep your secrets

    and I expect only

    witticisms of nothingness

Back to the way it was

go back to your life alone

    I refuse to intrude

    to be your fear

    go back to your life

    alone with your destiny

    you riddle of living death

  4. Appeals to parking tickets...I write best when I'm pissed.

  5. Writing is like breathing--it just bubbles up from your inner core.  You can't not find inspiration no matter how dull you think life is. I always carry a small pad & pencil & jot down snippets of overheard conversations, especially in the supermarket.  You never know when you'll learn something, overhear a funny remark, or a child's wisdom.  I try not to listen to intimate conversations, but hey! when you're in line all is fair game.  Being observant of your surroundings helps you to develop a keen eye for the texture & patterns around you. (e.g. a red maple leaf takes on a rusty hue).

The last part of your question is a hard one, but I'll give you the first thing that comes to my mind.  It's knowing me.  I instinctively know when I've slacked off because I was bored or lazy.  I've trained myself to watch people in all situations & to feel their reactions.  Dialog is hard for me so I listen for rhythms & cadences (e.g. a mother delighted her toddler has an ice cream cone until he dumps it in his lap & you can see & hear her annoyance). I know when it's time to stop work for the day because I'm unproductive.  I either work on something else or maybe bake a pie.  It's all about knowing myself & giving the best part of me when I do write.  I try to keep it simple & not over analyze as I did here!

  6. When I wrote my best work that got published in a couple magazines, the inspiration was the experience of a friend that I couldn't get off my mind. I wrote it out in fiction form, changed the names, and voila, something that I poured straight from my heart made me some moolah. =)

  7. I'm currently writing a story that I think is my best work yet. I get my inspiration from life. The little things like, the fact that my best place to think is outside on a swing. Or how my friends interact with each other. I even go to random places and observe how people act. Other times inspiration just comes to me in a dream -not kidding, the best part came from a dream. Inspiration comes from everywhere and everything, you just have to look for it.
