What institutions have legalized degradation ceremonies?

I know it for a fact that military has degradation ceremonies. I've experienced it first hand, in the bootcamp.There, they completely cut you off the society and  they remake you by trying to strip off your "old" personality and stamping a new one in place. I got so humiliated, so many times in bootcamp, during my 2 months degradation ceremony. Also, other total institutions are some boarding schools, fraternities, prisons, concentration camps and some religious cults.
