  1. Oboe and Trumpet are really challenging, even though their keys are simple. Flutes and Clarinets are easy, but you have to memorize a lot of difficult notes with like gazillion keys.

I would go with Flutes and Clarinets, learning the keys is totally worth it, because  it is really hard to get the notes right with your mouth on the trumpet.

Since flutes are easier to take care of and simpler, why don't you pick the flute? =)

  2. out of all of those

    flute

  3. No instrument is any better or worse than another, they're just different.  So the right instrument for you is the one that draws you more than the others.  Don't think about it logically, use your intuition, your gut.  Which one feels right to you?

Also, this is not a one time decision that can never be changed.  I started on a tuba then a year later switched to a trumpet.  Besides, there is no reason why you can't learn to play more than one type of instrument as time moves on.

On the other hand, don't let somebody else pressure you into playing something you do not want to play.  When my daughters first wanted to join band they both wanted to play the flute.  The band leader told them they couldn't because she already had enough flute players and she wanted a balanced band.  I didn't go along with that and both girls got to play the flute.

Bottom line, you are going to be the one practicing and playing whichever instrument so choose something that appeals to you.

  4. you should pick the flute. My cousin used to play the flute and he said it was easy to play

  5. The most important is which you like the best, because loving the music will make you good at it, whatever you're playing.

To check your air supply, get a slip of paper about 4 inches square and see how long you can hold it against the wall with just your breath.  If you can do 30 seconds or more, you're in great shape for brass or wind instruments.  For trumpet specifically, see how long you can buzz your lips ("raspberry" style).  All of the instruments you named are small and lightweight, and not too expensive unless you want a fancy one.

Clarinet skills will translate to bass clarinet or sax.  Similarly, Oboe skills translate to English Horn.  Trumpets are loud so expect to be loud when you practice by yourself and to be around other loud players in rehearsal.

There are usually more spots for flute than the others in selective bands, but on the flip side, a good oboist is very hard to find and may get lots of solos.

All of those instruments are used in orchestras, too.  If you like Jazz, the Oboe is probably the least likely to get you into a jazz band, but then again, if you're good, anything is possible!

  6. I would say clarinet because i know 3 ppl that play it and they all enjoy it

  7. The Clarinet. Its not so mono-tone sounding. The notes flow, and they just sound better.

  8. Flute,

    I like it (:
