What insurance companies currently DO cover massage (preventatively / WITHOUT a letter of medical necessity)?

I saw a question on here about "wouldn't it be great if insurance covered massage?" so I had to ask one too. I attempted to get insurance reimbursement for one massage and it was a major hassle even though I'm completely healthy and insurance paid out nearly nothing for me all year and my husband and I had paid over a thousand dollars into insurance. I still have not got it reimbursed, how incredibly dissappointing. If there's an insurance company out there that does I WANT TO KNOW. :) If anyone has an answer THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE.

  1. "Preventive" massage?  Surely you're kidding.

  2. MASSAGE THERAPY will only be covered once its done a medical doctor or something that is in his/her line of expertise. AND if its proven to be medically necessary... so regarding claims  you will need to submit a PT records or medical records to prove that its necessary.... and check your benefits to the insurance to make sure ... coz you may have like limitations maybe to this kind of procedure....

  3. Yeah...I'd like insurance coverage for a "preventative" pedicure too.  (You know...I could possibly get an ingrown toenail one day.)  But darn it all...they won't cover that either.

    Imagine that...medical insurance not covering a non-medical service.  What in the world is this world coming to?  {rolls eyes}

    (In other words...no.  I have never seen a policy cover "preventative" massage.  And I've seen thousands upon thousands of benefit plan designs over the years.)

  4. Some companies do... It can depend on whether the policy is private/individual or provided through your employer.

    Through various employer groups, I have seen massage services covered with & without a medical necessity requirement.

  5. There isn't one, sorry.

    Preventative massage is kinda like preventing that heart attack by drinking a glass of red wine every night - they won't pay for the red wine, either.
