Intelligent life on far away planets might be much different. But what fundamental inventions do you think would always be found on other inhabited worlds.

  1. modes of transportation and communication across distances

  2. Hmmmm... good question.  First, all intelligent life forms would find a way to grow plentiful food for themselves, so... I would guess a plow.

Next, they'd need energy to run their machines... electricity is produced in a number of ways, but he most efficient is magnets running close to wires, so I'd guess a turbine generator would be common.

We don't know if their environment would be similar to Earth's, so... maybe they don't need lights, or phones, but I'd guess rocket engines and satellites would be common machines, also.

  3. Physics - the laws of the Universe, would be in common.  In investigations, one thing leads to another.  Investigation into static electricity and lightning lead to magnetism and radio.  And so on.

If they start under water, things might take shorter or longer, but i expect that they'll (or we'll) get there sooner or later.

  4. most likely the wheel o.0

  5. If they happened to be able to fly or if there environment didn't require much moving around than our forms of transportation would be useless.

If they could communicate via something other than sound and sight than radios and television would be similarly useless. If you ever read Ender's Game the Buggers can communicate instantaneously with each other so any outside means of communication for them is useless (but this is probably not physicly possible).

If there isn't much diversity among the micro organisms on their planet they might not need medicine.

Lights are not needed unless they rely on sight.

Computers wouldn't be very important if their brains could process a lot of information at once. Similarly books and other forms of information storage would not be needed if they could remember nearly anything they experienced.

Very primitive inventions would be not needed if they had hands more useful than any stone tool. Matering fire isn't an invention but it was important to mankind. But if they didn't need external warmth or they could process any food they ingested without cooking this would be... u know... useless.

Boxes... I would say every species will need to store stuff and nothing stores stuff better than boxes. lol

I know this is a little absurd, but I honestly believe any kind of advance civilization will need to store stuff and mostly everything else humans have invented are only needed for the human form.

  6. Well what ever planet has life on it, life will only be divided into the groups, mamals, amphibians, birds fish, reptiles, insects etc. it cannot possibly take any other form, so all those films with aliens being big eyed big headed and green are wrong so's ET.

  7. You don't need to look that far away. Cephalopods, pachyderm, cetaceans, etc.  Communication with one another, if that is an "invention".

For homo sapiens, two key inventions where the ability to start a fire and the ability to shape stone weapons. These allowed us to go from prey to predator.
