I've been listening to Arthur all day today...such a great album. I'm having trouble deciding which is their best though.

So, which is your favorite and why?

  1. "...we are the Village Green Preservation Society..."

and "Picture Book" plus "Last of the Steam-Powered Trains"

  2. Low Budget, it brings back memories of being with my friends, and having no cares. Seems so far away. Have not heard it in a very long time, we played it to death. I've never even heard of Arthur, I'm going to check it out.

  3. Actually Arthur is one of my favorites:

Released on October 1969, Arthur [ Or The Decline and Fall of the British Empire] extends the British-oriented themes of Village Green Preservation Society, telling the story of a London's man decision to move to Australia during the aftermath of World War ll.It's a detailed and loving song cycle, capturing the minutiae of suburban life, the numbing effect of bureaucracy,, and the horrors of war. Shangri-La evolves from English folk to hard rock, Driven, has a lazy grace, Young and Innocent Days is a lovely, wistful ballad, Some Mother's Son is one of the most uncompromising antiwar songs ever recored, while Victoria and Arthur rock with simple glee. The music makes the words cut deeper, making Arthur one of the most effective concept album's in rock history, as well as one of the best and most influential British pop records of its era.Castle's 1998 CD reissue of Arthur contains ten bonus tracks.

Othe Kink's LPS you may injoy are: The Village Green Preservation Society, Muswell Hillbillies, The Kinks Kronikles 1972,  Sleepwalker, Low Budget, State of Confusion, Word of Mouth, Live at Kelvin Hall, Golden Hour of the Kinks, Schoolboys in Disgrace, Give The People What They Want, Something Else,

Hope you enjoy, Have a good day.

  4. The only two I have are Everybody's In Showbiz and One For The Road.

I like One For The Road a great deal because it's a live album and all the songs are done quite ferociously.

  5. sleepwalker, but everone they have done deserves a listen

  6. Face to Face is the best one I've heard so far. I haven't heard Arthur yet, but one of these days I'll probably buy it.

  7. The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society.

Arthur is also a great one!
