  1. -1

  2. 1

i am curious to know why you are curious

  3. - 1 (if there is no parenthesis)

  4. -1 squared is 1

    i squared is -1

  5. by looking at the above answer i wonder where the world is going.

-1^2 and (-1)^2 are not the same things but most of the answerers here gave tjhe answer to the second one.

    -1^2 = -1 * 1^2 = -1

note that - (in fact -1 is there) is nor raised to the power 2.

    similar example:

    -2^2 = -4 because -2^2 = -1 * 2^2 = -4*4 = -4

    cheers,

  6. thats 1...

  7. note

    -1^2 = -1

    but

    (-1)^2 = +1

  8. -(1)^2= -1

    (-1)^2= 1

  9. (-1)(-1)=1

  10. (-1)² = -1*-1 = 1

    -(1)² = -1² = -(1*1) = -1

Erm, if you're teaching Calculus and you're seeing this then, well, good luck.

And it's not surprising the answeres here are wrong, they are the vast majority of the time where there are 300 answers..lol.

What about that book of examples?

  11. (-1)(-1) = 1

  12. -1² = -1 * -1

    -1² = 1

    ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

  13. as long as the expression is (-1)^2 when it's parenthesized, then the answer is just 1

  14. 1....

  15. my answer is -1 because it has no quantity.

    (-1)^2= 1

    example:

    -4^2=  -16

    (-4)^2 = 16
