  1. MM = length

    carats= weight

    what is it you are asking

  2. It is impossible to convert units of length (mm) into units of weight (cts.).

    However if you are talking about diamonds there are methods of calculating weight from size. Providing your stone is a round, well cut modern brilliant with a normal thickness girdle and a total height of between 58-60% of its diameter the following formula works quite well.

    Carat weight = height x diameter squared x 0.0061

    For a 13mm stone the calculation is as follows:-

    height = 7.8mm  (60% of 13mm)

    diameter squared = 13 x 13 = 169

    So  7.8 x 169 x 0.0061  =  8.041

    Stone weighs 8.041 carats.

    This ONLY works with a well cut modern brilliant other shapes and forms of cutting require a different formula.

    Other stones than diamond can also have their weight calculated but it is necessary to know their S.G.

    Hope this helps a little.
