Rule 2:    Next perform all multiplications and divisions, working from left to right.

Rule 3:    Lastly, perform all additions and subtractions, working from left to right.

So for this problem, work left to right.  14-3 = 11, 11-2=9

So, you go through and check for any parentheses, any exponents, any multiplying, any dividing, any adding, and lastly, any subtracting in the sentence.
