  1. The first number is the number of channels, the second is the number of subwoofers (generally speaking).  So a "2.0 Home Theater" would be what us old-timers call "stereo."  Two main speakers (left and right) with no subwoofer.

You can actually get very good sound and real image depth with a 2-channel system if it is suitably high quality.  And there are many "virtual surround" systems that simulate rear channel surround sound with two speakers.  But it's just that - a simulation.

For real enjoyment of movies, there's nothing like a true 5-channel, 6-channel or 7-channel system (with or without  subwoofers, depending on the size of the main speakers).

Personally I think 5.1 (or better yet 5.2) is ideal for most people's purposes, unless you have an abnormally shaped or unusually large room.

    Hope that helps...

  2. 2.0 means that you only have two speakers.  This is usually found in older stereos.

  3. A load of c**p. You should have at least 5.1.

  4. 2 channels, stereo only. No sub-woofer

  5. I dont know if im answering this question right cuz I dont know if this is what you are talking about but,

    2.0 means 2 speakers

    5.1 means 5 speakers 1 sub woofer

thats what it means when they are talking about surround sound systems. I dont know if that is what you are talking about.

  6. Only means  having an excellent hi-fi amplifier or receiver and an excellent pair of speakers.
