  1. The Suez Canal allows two-way water transportation between Europe and Asia without circumnavigation of Africa. Before its opening in 1869, goods were sometimes offloaded from ships and carried overland between the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

The canal comprises seven parts, north and south of the Great Bitter Lake, linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Gulf of Suez on the Red Sea.

    i hope it helps.

  2. It could be the Suez Canal which is located in Egypt.   The  connection of Suez Kanal (Canal)  to Philippine  History  is very important.

When it  opened in 1869, it paved way for  foreign traders to do business with  many countries. Philippines was one of those who benefited from its operation, not only in terms of  business (economy), but  also about  way of life.  Contact  with westerners who came to trade with Philippines  brought-in new ideas, knowledge/education, and other things.

  3. Still got it basically right, but to expound, I'll add that the opening brought about faster, and thus, easier travel to Europe (before it was opened everyone had to sail around the Cape of Good Hope). The result is that the Filipino aristocracies were able to send their children to study in the Europe. This brought about the rise of the Illustrados, which had a huge contribution to the revolution.

  4. Kanal Suez can be an attempt for a Filipino translation of the Mediterranean Suez Canal.

i believe it was mentioned on Philippine History as one of the important Routes the European Countries used to reach the Far East.
