  1. Par is calculated by the length of the holes... And is different from Males and Females...

    Men:  Par 3 - 250yds (225mtrs)

              Par 4 - 251yds (226mtrs) - 470yds (423mtrs)

              Par 5 - 471yds (424mtrs) - 690yds (621mtrs)

              Par 6 - Anything over 690yrds

    Women: Par 3 - 210yds (189mtrs)

                    Par 4 - 211yds (190mtrs) - 400yds (360mtrs)

                   Par 5 - 401yds (361mtrs) - 575yds (518mtrs)

                   Par 6 - Over 575 yds

I wont go into the strokes made, I think everyone else has covered that.

  2. Par is the standard

You count one stroke everytime you hit the ball.

A birdie is one under par for a hole

An eagle is two under par for a hole

A bogey is one over par for a hole

  3. Par is the average amount of strokes it takes you to get to the ball in the hole.

Birdie is if you get the hole in the ball one under par

Eagle is if you get the hole in the ball two under par

Bogey is if you get the hole in the ball one over par

Double Bogey is if you get the hole in the ball two over par

Each hole has a set par. I will give an example - You get to the 4th hole of a golf course and the par is 5.

If you hit it off the tee box then its one stroke. So you then have 4 more strokes to use to be able to make par. So lets say you get it in 5, then you get par (the average).

Lets say you are having a good day and you make it in the hole from the tee box in 4 strokes - then you have birdie.

Or you could be having a really good day and you make it in 3, then you made eagle!

Then if you are having a bad day and you can't make it in 5 and you end up making it in 6 strokes - thats bogey.

If its a really tough hole and you are having a really bad day - you end up making it in 7 strokes, thats double bogey.

So then 8 strokes would be triple bogey.

On a scorecard you will see a number at the end and it is in the 70's - it is on the same row as the par for each hole. That number is the score you will get if you par every hole.

Basically, just write down how many strokes it takes you to get the ball in the hole for each hole. Then add them up and you will get your score. Lets say the par of a course is 73 and you add up all your strokes and you get 97. You would be +24 because you are 24 strokes over the 73 par. Or you could add up all your strokes and get a 65, then you would be -8 because you are 8 under the 73

    Good Luck!

  4. for beginners par is something you go over by about 5 for each hole

  5. The number of strokes or shots it takes to get in the hole from the tee. i.e. Par 3 means you should only need 3 shots to make it in the hole. Birdie is 1 under par - so a 2 in this example, Eagle is 2 under par. Bogies are 1 over par. Double bogie, 2 over par, triple bogey 3 over par, etc.

  6. par means simply the number of shots the course is set up to achieve the ball in the hole. A par three means you have 3 shots to make the ball in the hole a par 4, 4 shots to get it in the hole. The trick is not to go over those perimeters for instance if you get a  or 6 on a par 4 you are 2 strokes over for that hole. which is called a double bogey. A bogey is any number over the desired par . The whole purpose of the game is to make the ball in the hole in the least shots, if you hit the ball in the hole  in 2 shots on a par 3 you have made a birdie, or under what the hole calls 4. I hope this helps as it's a great game.

  7. When starting off, if the 1st hole is par 5, it means that if you hit the ball a total of 5 times (and the 5th time you hit it, it goes into the hole), then you've made "PAR" for that hole.  If it takes you 6 strokes before the ball goes into the hole, then you're "One over PAR" for that hole.  If you make the hole in 4 strokes, then it's a "BIRDIE", 3 strokes, then it's an "EAGLE".  Got it??

  8. par is getting the  right number of strokes on a hole.

there's normally a sign before the hole that states what par is.

if it's par 5, you should try to get 5 or less strokes on that hole.

hope that helps, im really no golfer.

  9. par is how many shots you can take.....Example, 3 par, means that if you take 3 shots, you have 0 over par, lets say you took 5 shots, then you have 2 over par, and you do that for every hole. then you add up all the numbers over par you had at the end of the game and that's your score.

    :))))

  10. Par is the number of strokes it should take for you the put the ball in the hole. So if a hole is a Par 4, then it should only take you 4 strokes to put the ball in the cup. Any golf hole will be either a Par 3, 4, or 5. On the rare occasion, you will find a Par 6.

Scoring in golf is easy. You want to finish all 18 hole in as little shots as possible.

If you complete a hole 1 stroke under Par, that is a Birdie. Two storkes under Par is an Eagle. # strokes under Par is a Double Eagle (or Albatross in some circles).

On the flip side, one stork over Par is a Bogey. Two strokes over is a Double Bogey, Three stroke over is a Triple Bogey, etc. If you still have not finished the hole after 12 strokes, you have to pick up, take a 12, and go to the next hole.

The average par for an entire course is 72, but it can vary. After you complete a round, you add up your strokes and compare your number to Par. So, if you shot a 115, then you score is +43, becasue you are 43 strokes over par. If your score is 63, then your score is -9, because you are 9 strokes under par.

    the lowest score wins.

    Good luck.

  11. Par is the amount of times an average golfer has to hit the ball before it goes into the hole.

I can't really explain the scoring, except that you want the lowest score possible.  It's basically scored off of how many times you had to hit the ball to finish all the holes.

  12. Par is when you use as many shots as you can without going over. Ex. Par 5 shots then you use 5shots to get the ball in the hole. That's a par.

A bogey is when you get one over the par.

    Double bogey is two over.

And triple bogey is three over.

(I learned this from Wii Sports so I don't know that much! =)

  13. each hole has a certain amount of strokes it SHOULD take you to get the ball in the hole.  Let's say the first hole is a Par 4.  It should only take you 4 strokes to get your ball in the hole, this includes driving the ball, chipping, putting etc.  A average par for an entire golf course is 72 strokes for 18 holes.  36 for 9.

  14. Each hole has a "par" score 3, 4 or 5. Based on distance.

Your score is the actual number of strokes you take. Your score is compared to the par score.
