What is 'an ecological footstep'? Is there just one way of measuring it? How valid is the measure(s)?

It would be good to know how good/bad a life style is in relation to the environmental damage. But what is the best way to judge this?

Its called an ecological footprint not footstep. There are a number of websites that can calculate it, just do a search for eco footprint.  It takes into account things like the type of transport you use, the types of things you eat, the kind of house you live in etc

It can be a bit of a shock when you see how much energy you use, but there are lots of ways to reduce this.
