  1. Do your own homework

  2. Since you can't have two equals, you might mean 3(x+10) + 4(x+20) or 3(x+10) - 4(x+20)

    I'll do both ways.

    --------

    Using addition:

    Distribute

    3(x+10) = 3x+30

    4(x+20) = 4x+80

    Rewrite

    3x+30 + 4x+80 + 5x =  185 - 3x

    Simplify

    12x +110 = 185 - 3x

    Simplify

    15x = 75

    Divide by 15

    x=5

    ---------------

    Using subtraction:

    3x+30 - 4x+80 + 5x = 185 - 3x

    4x + 110 = 185 - 3x

    7x = 75

    x = 75/7

    Since that answer looks a bit odd, I think you meant the addition.

    Hope that helped :)
