  1. 5a * 5a

    = 5 * a * 5 * a

    = 25a^2.

    I hope that helps. :)

  2. 25a^2

  3. 5ax5a = 5x5xaxa= 25xa^2=25a^2

  4. (5a)(5a)

    = (5)(5)(a)(a)

    = (25)(a^2)

    = 25a^2

  5. 5a x 5a = 25 a ^ 2 = (5a) ^ 2.  5a^2 is not correct.  You need the parenthesis.

  6. You know, you can figure this out.    "a" is gonna be a number, and once you turn it into a number, it will be clear to you.  Reality checking your guesses is one of the best ways to see if you are on the right track.

You need to remember the order of operations: parens first, followed by exponents, multiplication and division, and addition, subtraction last.

So, let's say "a" were, hmmm, 3.  Then the problem would be

    (5*3)*(5*3)

    =(15)*(15)

    =225

Now, 225 does not equal 5a^2 (which is 5*9 or 45).  It does equal (5a)^2 or 25a^2.

If you need sources on this, search for "order of operations" or "PEDMAS"  PEDMAS is Parens, Exponents, Divide, Multiply, Add, Subtract, and is also known as "Please excuse my dear Aunt Sally."
