  1. answer is 18

    18x-6-8x=140+2x-2

    10x-6=2x+138

    8x=144

    x=18

  2. Is this written correctly? Or is one of the equals signs supposed to be a plus sign?

    Fix it and then I'll answer it.

    Have a good day!

  3. 6(3x-1) - 8x = 140 =2(x-1)

    I think your = signs are off, if you solve for the first half you get

    Multiple numbers in () by 6

    18x - 6 - 8x = 140

    10x  - 6 = 140 (subtract 8x from 18x)

    10x = 146 (add 6 to both sides)

    x = 14.6 (divide both sides by 10)

  4. you have two equations, 1)   18x-6-8x=140

                                and   2)        2x-2 =140

    from eq.(1) 10x=146,x=14.6

    from eq.(2) 2x=138,  x=69

    so your system of equations are NOT self consistant,let us know how you got these equations,we will be glad to help.GOOD LUCK.

  5. you have to have written this problem incorrectly, because when you simplify, you get 10x-6 = 140 = 2x -2

    If 10x-6 = 140, x = 14.6, in which case 140 does NOT equal 2x-2

  6. 6(3x-1) - 8x + 140 =2(x-1)

    18x - 6 - 8x + 140 = 2x-2

    10x + 134 = 2x-2

    8x = -136

    x = - 17

    If the first = is a + and the second = is correct.  Or, if the first = is correct and the second = is a +, then Jessie is correct.
