As the other people answered ASL does stand for american sign language. IT is one of the ways that you can communicate with deaf people. It is considered to be another language. It is very good to learn. There are so many deaf people and it is like they're invisible. You can learn some on the internet. I hope that this info. was helpful!!:)

Seeing as you're in the Special Education section, I'm sure you're referring to American Sign Language.

ASL is a language of hand signs used to communicate with the deaf, hard of hearing, or nonverbal.

ASL has it's own grammar style, so it's not just "signed English", which actually is a language in itself.  Each letter of the alphabet and many words have their own signs.
