Question:

What is Acadia Wood/Tree?

I found a really nice looking cutting board that says it's made of Acadia Wood, but then I searched "acadia wood" and "acadia trees" on Google and didn't really find much other than Acadia is a country and their people are Acadian... (Not exactly what I was looking for.) And pictures of Acadia trees. I also found info about "Acacia" trees but I don't know if that's the same thing of different. I am looking for information about the wood... Is it dense? Is it a strong wood? Is it a heavy or light wood? Any other info you know about Acadia wood or Acadia trees would be helpful. The cutting board is $50 and I want to know if it's worth it.

  1. Hi Anonymous,

My guess is that Acadia Wood/Tree might be a reference to a Weeping Willow tree from the Acadia area of Quebec Prov., Canada.

The Weeping Willow is said to be the "national" tree of Acadia (see link, below).

Besides the eastern portion of Canada, the bayou area of Louisiana is an Acadia region because of the Acadians who migrated there from Quebec Prov.

The best way to determine what type of tree your cutting board is from would be to take it to a lumber mill or professional woodworker.  Most people who have worked with woods for any length of time could give you a good idea of the type wood that your board is made from.

As for the value of the cutting board, that is really a matter of personal opinion.  If you like the board (which I would guess that you do, since you purchased it), then it is worth the $50.

Heck!  Enjoy it and take care of it!

    I hope this helps.
