it's the beginning of a new life, as for the Catholics. it's when your soul leaves your body, after you physically die here in our world and start anew. that's why in some countries, they celebrate the death of their loved ones because it just means that now, they're living a life with God, and someday they'll be together again.

It's man's hope that there's more to life than life.  The belief in an afterlife shields man from the cruel reality that we're all doomed to utter annihilation when we die and we'll never see our long dead relative again..

There is no physical proof of "afterlife" like there is physical proof of "gravity."  Thus there is no real answer, only opinions and beliefs.

Right now, here, in this moment, your physical body exists, breathes, functions...

When that stops, THEN you will experience "afterlife," if experiencing such a thing is possible.  Nevertheless, it's whatever occurs AFTER your physical body has ceased to function.
