Current optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new Optical Disc format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray.

a BLU RAy dvd player is a player which plays blu ray dvds .. lol.. a blu ray dvd is a better audio/video quality and has 1080pixel per inche which is very good quality .. blu ray players can cost $1000+ for a good one .. if u wantd one i wud suggest purchasing the Playstaion 3 (PS3) as it ahs a built in blu ray player and u also get the gaming consoel with it .... they are the best value ones..
