What is Benadryl used for???

I read that Benadryl is used for a cold or runny nose. I also heard that people use it to help them sleep. And I also heard people use it for recreational purposes. What does this mean? What are all the things its used for?

Antihistamine

It is a allergy med that can help treat colds and used as a over the counter sleep aid. Over counter medications can only contain certain improved medication so most OTC meds all contain the same meds.

I use it because it's the only allergy med strong enough to help me, even though it makes me tired as h**l.

No prescrption nesscary, generic benadrly is pretty much same thing but way cheaper. If you chew a benadrly up it'll numb your tounge etc.

The cold and running nose was my problem while growing up. Benadryl was always in my "diet" so to speak. It helps with the cold to stop it dripping continously. As a sleeping easer I do not quite agree we should induce sleep with warm milk or aromathrapy soft meditation or many other techniques. Benadryl may be addictive and the person's I.Q may be effected. Some people choose to sedate themselves with benadryl. Drug abuse. I suggest problems should be sorted out,resolved through discussion and counselling with elders rather than forgetting them with sleep.Problems do not dissappear if they are not solved. So benadryl should only be used when absolutely necessary. And really prescribed by a doctor or qualified pharmacist.

1.  Allergy.  It is an antihistimine.  Good for hay fever, hives, etc.

2.  It makes you sleepy.

3.  It can be an anti-nauseant, like for motion sickness.

It always makes people sleepy, so if a nap is your idea of recreation, I guess it could be for you, otherwise, why take it except for real symptoms?  It is an over-the-counter medicine.

Benadryl is one of the best medicine to cure cold, cough and running nose. Every cold or cough syrup has that sleeping dosage in it so who consumes it tend to sleep well. People buy Benadryl syrup without a prescription and thats why its called recreational.
