  1. Put simply, it is a form of diesel fuel that is made from Corn.

  2. Bio-diesel is made up fatty acid methyl esters (FAME).  It is produced by reacting fats (animal or vegetable) with methanol in the presence of an alkyline catalyst, usually NaOH.  Fats are also esters (between three fatty acids and glycerine), and the reaction that takes place is known as transesterification.  Each fat molecule yields three FAME molecules plus one molecule of glycerine.

FAME makes fairly good diesel fuel, it is essentially sulfur free and has natural lubricity that exeeds that of petroleum based diesel.  It is, however, also a fairly good solvent and can attack plastic parts of the fuel system.  Most newer diesel engines use plastics that are resistent to FAME attack.  Older engines may not be able to handle more than about 10% FAME in their fuel.

Many european automotive diesels are designed to operate on 100% bio-diesel, but the manufacturer often specifies that this must be RME (rape methyl ester, made from rapeseed oil).

Check out this website and read up on it for yourself.

  4. It is a clean-burning, American made fuel.  It is usually made from soybeans.  It is 100% renewable and environmentally friendly.  It does not contribute to global warming and reduces our oil imports and trade deficit. All diesel engines can burn B20(20% biodiesel blended with 80% regular diesel) safely. Here are 2 good websites to read more:

  5. it is used cooking oil out of the deep fryer filtered and used in diesel engines only it works good and it is cheap until the restaurants discover there is a market for the stuff. i know watched it on myth busters and daily planet on the discovery channel
