  1. Biodiversity simply means diversity of life (bio).  It is a buzzword used in conservation circles to describe an important concept.

The important concept = Ecosystems (environments) that are more diverse are more stable and sustainable.

For example, a corn field is not very diverse.  If a disease or other calamity comes along that the corn is not evolved to handle it will become a field of dirt in short order.  On the other hand, if you have an equal sized field of natural prairie and a disease comes along that wipes out all of say, the bluestem (a grass).  There are still a lot of other species (of grasses, etc.)  in the field that can do what it does.

This is important because, like the field mouse that lives in both the corn field and the prairie, we are dependent on the environment around us.  If it fails, we suffer.  So yes, conserving or maintaining Biodiversity is important in India.  It's important everywhere.

  2. Biodiversity is biologically diverse spectrum of life. Conservation of Biodiversity is very important on the entire planet. Once it is lost, it is forever. Biodiversity translates to habitat preservation. The large habitats may sustain greater biodiversity. Diminishing habitats translates into diminishing biodiversity. Preservation of wild lands is simple. Set the land aside completly for Mother Nature and leave it alone, the land and biodiversity will maintain itself. Leaving the land alone means keeping people away. It's that simple.
