What is Borax and is there really a good reason to use it in laundry?

  1. I read a few things recently about borax.  It is "greener" than some other cleaners, not necessarily in the way its mined, but in using it.  But "greener" doesn't necessarily mean better.  It has a lot of uses though, and for me, I find it works really well in the laundry, general cleaning and in keeping the bug population down.  I saw a site that might get you moving in the right direction.  Giddy up and git er done!


  2. One-half cup Borax added to the recommended amount of detergent will boost the cleaning power of the detergent by controlling alkalinity, deodorizing the clothes and aiding the removal of stains and soil. (For large capacity and front-loading machines, add three-quarters of a cup of Borax).

    If you mix it 50-50 with baking soda it will get your dishes clean in the dishwasher. Add a little vinegar in the rinsing cycle.
