What is CQC? (MGS4)?

I am currently playing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and I wanted to know what CQC is, it talks about it everywhere but it never says what it is...

Could someone also tell me what it means both in this game and in real life please? That would help a lot.

Close Quarters Combat. It is close range combat, generally use to describe urban combat and at times, hand to hand combat. There are different terms that the military use to describe CQC, one common term is called MOUT-Military Operation in Urban Terrain.
