I have a 2000 Ford Mustang V6. I was washing my engine, and when I went to go turn it on the right blinker light on the dash lit up and it started to began to putter and go way below one RPM and die. My check engine light came on. The weird thing is that it does it at random time but mostly when the A/C is on. PLEASE HELP its getting worse and worse.

  1. Well a P1414 suggests a problem with the air injection system. In the old days, cars used a belt driven air injection system (also called a smog pump). Your mustang uses an electric motor for the air injection system.

Unfortunately, I don't see a failed air injection system causing the symptoms you are describing. Typically a failed air injection system would cause a failed smog test, but do little to the performance of the vehicle.

There is a lot of steps to check and correct the P1414, but too many to list in detail here. I am going to guess that your performance trouble is caused by either an un-metered air leak beyond the mass airflow sensor. This could be found by making sure you have no vacuum leaks. And also make certain your air intake hoses are clean and tight. Make sure there is no holes in the air intake hoses. You might also have a dirty mass airflow sensor. If you are careful you can remove the mass airflow sensor and very carefully clean it. If you aren't careful, you could end up having to buy a new one.
