  1. DEAE is an anion exchanger. DEAE stands for diethylaminoethyl. This group is positively charged, and so binds negatively charged ions. DEAE is attached to a Sephadex, Sepharose or cellulose matrix, and the column is used to separate proteins based on the negative charges on the protein molecules.
