What is DEERS? Lots of questions about the Navy!?

My husband joined the Navy in June and I have a lot of ?'s So if anyone can help me out and tell everything they know about the Navy and what to expect it would help out a lot!! Thank You

Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) is the system that keeps track of military dependents (wives, children, etc) it's  also what makes us eligible for health care (TriCare)... welcome to the family

He will get the DEERs papers like the 2nd day of basic training and they will be sent to you so you can get a military ID and all of your benifits

DEERS is the database of military personnel and their dependents, ensures eligibility for all military programs.  Welcome to the Navy

DEERS is the Navy program for tracking dependents.  You should automatically be enrolled once you get onto your husbands page 2 (in his service record the page 2 holds ALL the information regarding his personal profile, his dependents, his emergency contacts, his address ect).  Being enrolled in DEERS makes you eligible for military health care so it is VERY important you ensure that you are enrolled.   You can contact your husbands command for the number of their OMBUDSMAN (a dependent/Command liason) to get your questions answered and for some good information regarding things you will probably need to know.

you do not get entered into DEERS until he reports to RTC.  about a month after he arrives you should get a packet in the mail with the paperwork you need to get an ID without him being present.  at that point you can enroll into TRICARE Prime.  he will receive BAH based on your location while he is in Boot and A school.  

Expect 6-8 weeks before he gets paid for the first time.
