What is Democracy? [I really need help]?

I am a senior, taking government. I have to write a 3 paragraph essay [Introduction, Body, Conclusion] on democracy. I really do not like writing essays at all. But anyways, i KNOW what it is a little, but i do not know what to write for my essay. It confuses me. so, if anyone could please help me. I'll be so happy. (:

Democracy is a system of government by which political sovereignty is retained by the people and exercised directly by citizens. In modern times it has also been used to refer to a constitutional republic where the people have a voice through their elected representatives.

For example, Canada and America.

Ack today's youth!  I will not write your paper, but instead give you the best possible explanation.  Democracy spreads power among many different parts of government and people.  In a dictatorship the ruler has all of the power.  In a democracy the power is split up among the president, vice president, treasurers, secretary, senators, congressmen, and even further down.
