  1. DC is usually cleaner

  2. Doctors coats are usually the same cotton coats as laboratory coats.

The whole aim of a coat is to stop hazardous materials touching the person. This is usually more important for lab work or where a mess might start like an ER, but many scientists and doctors will wear them just a s a sign of their job (for fashion).

The difference between coats for different jobs is:

What types of pockets (if any, some jobs you not allowed pockets due to chemical spills or blood or cultures landing in them)

How expensive the weave ( some coats are more comfortable, some less so)

Brand name (Yes! believe it or not some companies only buy certain brand names, just like fashion)

Insignia (companies often want their doctors/scientists with insignia embossed on the coat)

That is basically it... essentially there is no difference at the base level.
