  1. Dungeons and Dragons is a role-playing game.  Roleplaying games are, at their essence, Let's Pretend, only more sophisticated.  The game was a derivation of a miniature war-game, Chainmail, but instead of just doing combat maneuvers, they added content to assume a fighter's personality as well.  The most common incarnation (and its original) is as a paper and dice game.  However, the RPG explosion that followed has led to many forms of RPGs.

Final Fantasy is a good example.  It has you start with a character you name (Player Character), your PC must complete quests and defeat monsters and enemies to gain experience points, and as your PC gains experience, s/he goes up in levels, increasing his/her abilities and effectiveness.

  2. More accurately, Final Fantasy is like Dungeons and Dragons, but is a video game (D&D started back in the mid-70's, so its pedigree is far longer than that of video games). D&D isn't a board game in the traditional sense - rather, it's a tabletop role-playing game, usually (but not necessarily) played with a map and miniatures to determine position and movement in combat situations.

  3. It's kind of like Final Fantasy, but instead of the computer controlling the storyline, another person does it.  You decide where you want to go, instead of following where the game makes you go.  When you talk to someone, instead of selecting from two or three answers, you can say whatever you want.

  4. dungeons and dragons is a very mind supporting game that whether you play it in board game form or table top. you can do things that you would never get to do in real life because it is also a good way to get way from the everyday and into the depths of your mind that you can create characters to play whether they are male or female and not get ridiculed for it

  5. d&d is a board game where you have near infinite options to customize your character and what happens while you play you need two people a dungeon master and the adventurer the dungeon master makes the game or reads from a booklet letting you know about the world your in  the dungeon master controls the whole game. the adventurer is the one that lives in the world the dungeon master creates you have total control over your character for example there are no guidelines about what you can say like if you go to a house and the dungeon master says there is an old woman in the house you the player can do whatever you want like talk to the women bribe the woman for info ask her bout here life or whatever you want to say or do you make up your own actions and that's what makes the game so much fun you need some things go to your local hobby shop you need a 6,20,10,4,8,and 12 sided die. you also need a dungeon master guide    players handbook and a monster manual. last you should get some figures and dungeons. a dungeon is a book that has all the details to start. HAVE FUN!

  6. Dungeons and dragons is a Game which has role playing in it. But it also has rules, dice, books, etc.

Role Playing Games are ones in which you pretend to be someone else in an imaginary world. The fantasy is collaborative -you all work together to improve and create a more believable fantasy.

Contrary to popular belief, upgrading items and leveling up and rolling dice are not actually examples of role playing. There are many role playing games with no levels and no dice.

The dice, the levels and the items -THAT'S Dungeons and Dragons. And that's the only thing they can copyright too. :-)

  7. it is not just dungeons. it is not just dragons. it is dungeons AND dragons. so many dungeons. so many dragons.

ok fine i'll post a wikipedia link.
