What is ETA?

Can anybody tell me anything about ETA?

I know that it means Euskadi Ta Askatasuna which is Basque for "Basque Homeland and Freedom"

I also know that it is a terrorist group that wants to find peace.

What peace are they trying to find?

How do they terrorise Spain?

What is ETA and what do they want from Spain?

Who is involved with ETA?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

  1. The ETA is considered a terrorist group by Spain and France, however, Basque separatists believe that they should have freedom from Spain and consider them freedom fighters.

The ETA was formed in 1952 to separate from Spanish rule and create an independent country.  Since then the ETA has used car bombs, assasinations and kidnapping to get their message across.

The group is interested in Freedom for the Basque people and a separate independent country.  The ETA is mostly composed of militant students and "freedom fighters." in the northern regions of Spain.
