  1. el salvador use to have colon now they changed it to the us dollar  el salvador is the only country that shares a dollar with another country.my family lives there and i have been there that is why i know

  2. The US Dollar has been the monetary unit of El Salvador since 2001.

Before then, it was El Colón (named after Columbus), and it's exchange rate had been frozen at 10 Colones to every US Dollar.  Before the freeze, it fluctuated from 7.89 Colones up to 13.00 Colones per Dollar.

The Colón was frozen and then changed to the US Dollar in an attempt to stabilize the Salvadoran economy.  It was stabilized, but with mixed results.

  3. Currancy calculator at the link below.

  4. Yep, it was El Colon but now all they take is US money. And it's basically worth the same as here. Clothes, equipment, cars, even homes are running for about the same as they do here, my sister in law just bought a home for $300K, it's super beautiful and in one of the best areas.

The things that I did find a little cheaper is the food, we went to a town carnival and my hubbie (being that he was going from "el norte") paid for everyone's food, and there were lots of us, I thought he was going to pay like $80-100 for like 60 pupusas and 25 bottles of soda and other stuff, well he just paid like $25 I was soo surprised. but then I noticed that other places we went the food was good and cheap. Ofcourse if you want to go to Tony Roma's or a Fancy steak house then that's a different story. But I love my husband's country.

  5. It WAS the colon but changed to the US dollar in 2001

  6. El Colon, but now they use US Dollars
