  1. Elixir is a stimulant. Vitamin mineral supplements , tonics and herbal extracts are given that name .

    Real elixirs are illegal

  2. Elixirs are sweetened hydro-alcoholic (water and alcohol) liquids for oral use. They have an active ingredient that is dissolved in a solution of alcohol and water. Their percent alcohol is usually 40-60%. Elixirs are often made from vodka or grappa.

Similar terms that people often confuse with this are Tincture and Spirits.

Tinctures may be used externally, have an alcohol percentage of 40-90% and are non-volatile (do not evaporate easily/low vapor pressure). Also, tinctures are often made using herbs and spirits, allowing them to combine and react over a period of time.

Spirits are volatile alcoholic substances. Pure ethanol may be considered a spirit, as well as ethanol mixed with another volatile substance.
