Tularosa is a rose or is it a tree or a shrub, not the basin in New Mexico.

  1. The reason the basin and town got their names were because of the Tularosa that grew in the area.

Might be hard to find a direct translation of this one since it's an indigenous name. I found two definitions (links below) and they both describe the Tularosa as being a reed plant that grows along rivers and in marsh areas. My grandmother used to call cattails, tularosas but that's no guarantee that that is the proper name.

Tularosa derives its name from the Spanish word tule meaning reeds or cattails...

Tularosa gets its name from the Spanish description for the red or rose colored reeds growing along the banks of the Rio Tularosa. http://www.villageoftularosa.com/visitor...
