What is Evia known for in Greece?

I am from Evia and i would like to know what my island is known for. (modern, ancient)

Well known are the Kymi figs. The Agios Yiannis Rossos monastery. However, what I have learned since I was in school half a century ago, was the Evripos straits and the alternating movement of the waters every 6 hours. Six hours going North, then 6 hours going South.

I'm sure, this is a fact about Evia, that every Greek knows for certain and which distinguishes it.

i dont know how true this is.!!! but my friend is from evia .and when he went to visit in the 80,s he said that did not matter where he went...he alwasy found people related to him all over evia..apprantley its a very closed community on evia.as far as evians are concerned.. also i read back in the late nintys that  they found evidence of PRE HISTORIC.civilazation on evia...and that  evians are one of more PISTI ,STIN ORTHODOXIA. of all greeks. but that i would say would be left to each individual to judge. also dosent EVIA NATURAL SPRING WATER COME FROM THERE? one of the best spring waters int he world has a high concentraion of magnesium..which is good for the heart..
