I have never used it before but someone has emailed me to join his facbook page. How is this possible if I have never used it before?

It's an extremely popular social networking site.

You set yourself up with a profile page, then you can find your real-life friends (or they can find you) and it's a convenient way to share updates, photos and stuff with your friends. A lot of people find it easier than e-mail or having a website which is why in the UK it's now got 1 million users.

It's possible to invite somebody to join Facebook, if they're not already a member. If you ignore the invite, nothing will happen and you won't be signed up or anything.

It is a popular social networking website. There's a way for members to invite contacts in their email address book so they can "add you" as a friend on the website. You should join it; it's fun.
