  1. The relay is what makes the flashers flash. Power goes to the relay and the relay allows it to pulse so you get the flasher. Without the relay, they would just stay on like any other light.


  2. Flasher relay is a 12VDc relay used for cars and motorcycles. It has one normally open contact, rated 10 amperes for flashing of signal lights in cars, motorcycles and trucks.

  3. I assume you mean the flasher relay on a car that makes the indicator (turning) lights blink on and off to warn other road users of your intention to turn.

    The flasher relay has a bi-metallic strip wired in series with the lamps as current passes through the strip it heats up and bends switching off the lamps. As it cools it returns to make contact and the lamps are on again. This cycle is designed to operate at about a 1 second flash rate when all lamps are OK. If a lamp has blown the flasher relay will flash on and off at a different rate indicating a lamp needs replacing
