  1. It is promoted as a vegetarian replacement for fish oil due to its omega 3 oil content but some people are unable to tolerate it. Flaxseed or another oil such as safflower for example will not replace the protein of  an egg.

  2. Flax is used as a source of omega 3, becouse this is not usualty found in a vegetarian diet and ground flax seed mixed with water can be used as an egg replacer and as a supplement in smoothies or any other recipe where you will not notice the texture. works well in breads too.

  3. It is the same as linseed oil.  To me it is great for woodworking projects but I can't ingest it as it makes me sick.

  4. You actually use flax seeds, not the oil, to replace eggs.  Take 1 tbsp flax seeds and 3 tbsp water and mix.  Let it sit until it forms a goopy consistency.  Then add to the batter.

Flax seed oil, on the other hand, is good in salad dressings or drizzled on vegetables.  Some add it to smoothies, but I have never tried it.  One thing you must never do with flaxseed oil is cook or bake with it.  You also absolutely MUST keep it in the refrigerator as it goes bad very easily.

Flax is a good vegetarian source of omega 3 fatty acids.
