  1. A Flex Fuel vehicle can run on normal gasoline or E-85, or any combination of the two. The sensors and computer detect the presence of Ethanol and adjust the engine to run on what ever percentage of Ethanol (alcohol) is in the tank.

  2. a little added bit to your question, ethanol blends are 1 not less polluteing , or better MPG wise either, the average engine that uses gasoline will use 2 times as much ethanol (alcohol) to get the same basic work out of it. Yes alcohol does burn somewhat cleaner, but takes 2 times as much to get the same results. Ethanol is also cheaper right now due to the fact that oil is so expensive to obtain. Ethanol is basically Moonshine or Distilled fermented corn mash.

  3. It means it can run up to 85% ethanol in gasoline.  It can run straight gasoline as well.  Basically it is an engine that is made for a high percentage ethanol mix.
