  1. the rooster..............

  2. There are several.

One of the national emblems of France, the Coq Gaulois (the Gallic Rooster) is the symbol of the French people because of the play on words of the Latin gallus meaning Gaul and gallus meaning coq, or rooster. Since 1848, the rooster has been on the seal of the French Republic  It is also the emblem of French sports teams in international competitions.

Marianne symbolizes the "Triumph of the Republic" in a bronze sculpture overlooking Place de la Nation in Paris. She has become a popular symbol of the Revolutionary Spirit in France. Her profile is on the official seal of the country.

The "tricolor" flag had its origins in the union, at the time of the French Revolution, of the colours of the King (white) and the City of Paris (blue and red). The law of 27 Pluviôse, Year II (February 15, 1794), established the "tricolor" as the national flag.

The Fleur de lys was the symbol of the ancien regime, that is the Kingdom of France before the Revolution. It was first adopted by the French king Philippe II (1180-1214) and may have been used by his father Louis VII (1137-80).

    .

  3. The answers above are correct.

Marianne is more the allegory of the Republic. She is the Republic. In satirical pictures, she is used to represent France as a Republic and its people.

Have a look on the french euro coins (you can find it on the internet). On some coins are represented Marianne. On others, there's a tree (an oak or an olive tree, I'm not sur!). It's a symbol of strenght, wisdom (so an oak), power, the fruits we get from it... And eventually, on others, there is "la semeuse" (the seeder?). Another symbol of hope, a lady seeding seeds that will become food... you get the idea. Those are also symbol of France.

  4. Le coq or rooster...also fleur-de-lis and Marianne
