What is France's political system like?

How does it compare to the U.S.'s Democratic/Republican party? Is it more conservative or liberal?

I know they're pacifists and don't like war. They also have universal health care, so maybe a touch of liberalism and even socialism where the gov takes care of the people?

But I thought they were conservative with abortion and g*y rights.

It is far more liberal, though the current government is "conservative" it is liberal by American standards.

The country is extremely bureaucratic and special interests/lobby groups ensure that important reforms never get made. The economy is stifled by red tape and silly employment laws.

Beautiful place though.
