What is the friction point ? when your releasing the clutch? what does it do?

  1. At the rear of the engine is a round flywheel, a clutch disc goes against this, held by a pressure plate, the pressure plate has arms or fingers in the middle of it, against it is a throw out bearing.

    An arm or lever is connected to it on one end and it goes through the bell housing (this is what surrounds the flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing) and connects to either a cable or rod that goes to the clutch petal in the car.

    The transmission shaft goes through all of these parts, via a hole in the center of these.

    When the clutch is depressed it pushes the throw bearing against the pressure plate fingers and pulls the pressure plate away from the clutch, allowing it to freewheel, thus disengaging the transmission from the engine, allowing the vehicle to stand still or shift gears if in motion.
