    how about the Cuckoo's clock....

    http://www.cuckooclocks.com/

    also the good german wines...

  6. Germany exports over $1 Trillion annually - chemicals (including prescription and over-the-counter medications), motor vehicles, iron and steel products, manufactured goods (including beer), electrical products.

  7. tb33 is right, machinery parts are Germany's main export. We're famous for our cars, but that's just part of the story. In recent times, Germany does not export so much machinery any longer,  but rather the "how-to"; so we're into the patent business. I don't think that's the best option for Germany; we once were famous for machinery parts that were indestructable, and for German steel, which was world-renowned for its durability. Nowadays, there's no German steel industry you could talk about any longer, and we buy our steel from China.

Germany's on the rise about exporting technology for alternative energy production; solar modules produced here are among the finest in the world, and we're about twenty years ahead of any other nation who just now thinks of alternatives to fossile fuels. But there's heavy lobbyism in Germany, and maybe politics will win again and put us back to the stone age. There's wonderful technology available, and I wish it would be made available on an industrial scale.

The real big thing Germany gave to the world, and didn't even charge for it, is the mp3. That's a sound format invented at the Fraunhofer institute in Germany and published as a science research result, so it's free for everyone to use.

  8. I would think: cars (Mercedes, BMW, Audi)
