What is Global Warming? [In depth answer please]?

I'm doing a report on that and the Green house effect. Global warming isn't much to go on so i plan to say how to stop it and stuff. >.> and what caused it as well. websites are VERY helpful. thanks.

it's basically what he said, but i'll add a little bit.

CO2 which is carbon dioxide, is released from pollution and all sorts of great things man-made. eventually, if we lose the ozone, it will be so hot that the only way to survive is for humans to be indoors at all times.

an 80's research shows that with less pollution, the ozone can repair itself. but that was when we had a ban on everything spray, which lasted about a year. now the hole is bigger than ever.

Global Warming is a result of the sun's changing energy output, melting the glaciers and exposing lots of new land for plants and animals to live on.

You cannot stop it.  It is a regular cycle the Earth goes through, warming then cooling then warming again.  Even during those cycles, there are large warm and cool spells.  This is caused by natural forces (like the Sun) that are so massive there is nothing you can do about it except enjoy the sun, the trees, the beaches, and hope that we do not have another cooling spell any time soon.

It sucks trying to live on a glacier.

We do know that Al Gore started this whole warming scare to make lots and lots of money for his corporation, to make himself and his investing buddies very rich by making government take our money and give it to them.

Some gases ("greenhouse gases") let sunlight in, which warms the Earth, and then block that heat from leaving. That's the "greenhouse effect", and it's a natural thing, mostly caused by water vapor.

Man is making excessive amounts of greenhouse gases, mostly by burning fossil fuels. That causes the delicate natural balance to go out of whack and the Earth warms. That's global warming.

It won't be a Hollywood movie style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.

Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.

Speakeasy is absolutely correct.  To add to his answer global warming is just that... "warming of the globe or earth".  It is not a man made invention it is the natural process of the earth, and although humans are adding to it, are part is much MUCH smaller than what is being reported.

The following report shows the earths natural temp and CO2 levels.  You will see that we are near the bottom of both for the average life span since life was first thought to be on Earth.

I would not write a report on how to stop as this is inevitable.  If we stopped every car, shut off all the lights and stopped doing everything that we know global warming will still happen and the temp of the earth will still rise.  IF you notice in every report by an Environmentalist that dont ever say that it can be stopped just slowed down, that is because they too know that it is not just humans that are causing this.

I would write a report with as much fact from both sides of the story... this will be a lot more thought provoking and accurate and unless your teacher is very stupid you should get the highest score in the class for having the most informative report.
