  1. Guatemala is terrible!

I've been there, it is very danderous!

  2. It all depends on his immigration status... if he's here llegaly or not.

If he's llegal -  he could petition for his family to come here. if he has the means... hire a Immigration lawyer to help him out. But it does NOT mean that it gets them (family) here faster but it would help him out with the legal stuff.

If he's not legal - he should hire a lawyer anyway if he wants to fix his status.

Either way, He will need support from a lawyer.

The U.S. gives legal status to refugees, asylums, ect. You came look up the details at www.homeland security.com

About Guatemala .... It's like any country it has it's good and bad places, It's not the place that make the place "bad" it's the people.

    Good luck

  3. If you live in southern california, it should be easy for your friend to feel at home.

  4. Forget about getting his family here. It's never going to happen, sorry.  My best friend visited guatemala and fell in love with a girl. He returned a few months later and married her, and even though they were married, and we was legal here in the US they could never get her here legally.  They called immigration lawyers, they even tried to get her here on a temporary mission through my church.  Nothing worked. So they eventually just ended the marriage even though they were stil in love.

He says that Guatemala is a really cool place to live, just really poor, but the people their don't know anything else so it's not a big deal to them.  He says the people there are very friendly and loving and give all that they have, even though they have very little.
