high definition multimedia interface or HDMI it is a completely uncompressed signal that transmits HD to your TV from an HD source. It is currently the crispest picture you can get from a source until they come out with the next best thing. The nice thing is some components you can link them together through HDMI and they can communicate back and forth between the cable unlike any other signal you would be using component video being the next best thing, unless you have DVI which is mostly used on computers though.
